San Bernardino Therapist
For Couples and Individuals in Relationships
Some days it feels like you’re sleeping next to a stranger. The smallest things turn into arguments, or worse—silence. You replay old conversations in your head, wondering when things shifted from “us against the world” to “you versus me.” You used to reach for each other without thinking; now you hesitate, unsure if your touch will be welcomed or brushed off. There are moments you look at your partner and miss them while they’re sitting right there.
You’re tired of pretending everything is fine in front of friends, family, or the kids, and you’re scared to say out loud how bad it actually feels. Part of you is still hoping this is fixable, and another part is bracing for the possibility that it’s not and living in that in-between is exhausting.
Maybe:
The same argument happens over and over and never really gets resolved
You feel invisible, criticized, or like you are always the problem
There has been an affair, a secret, or a betrayal and you do not know how to move forward
You are thinking, “Do we break up, or is there still something worth fighting for?”
You want help, but the idea of sitting in a tiny office once a week rehashing the same fight in front of a stranger does not feel very hopeful.
I work with people in relationships in the San Bernardino area who need more than a quick check-in. Through relationship counseling intensives, we create enough time and space to actually get to the root of what is going on.
You can drive just a short distance from San Bernardino to my Rancho Cucamonga office for in-person intensives, or we can meet online if that is most appropriate for your situation.
How a San Bernardino Therapist Can Support Your Relationship
This is not general “talk therapy.” It is relationship-focused intensive work.
As a therapist serving the San Bernardino area, I specialize in:
Couples who feel like roommates and want intimacy and connection back
Relationships impacted by affairs, secrecy, or broken trust
Individuals in relationships who feel stuck, confused, or overwhelmed
Step 1: Consultation for San Bernardino clients
We start with a free consultation so you can ask questions and see if this style of work feels right for you. I will listen to what is happening, what you have already tried, and what you are hoping for.
Step 2: Relationship Intensive
If we decide to work together, we begin with a 1 or 2-day intensive tailored to your situation. During your intensive, you can expect:
A clear structure and ground rules to keep you emotionally safe
Plenty of time to tell your story without being cut off by the clock
Brain-based tools like Brainspotting and, when appropriate, KAP to help your nervous system release long-held pain and reactivity
Step 3: Continued deep work
We will continue meeting in longer-format sessions (monthly mini-intensives or longer sessions twice a month) so that you can keep integrating your insights into everyday life. The goal is not perfection. It is feeling more connected, supported, and steady, even when hard things come up.
About Alicia – A San Bernardino-Area Therapist Focused on Relationships
I am Alicia Taverner, LMFT, a couples specialist and intensive therapist serving the San Bernardino area from my office in Rancho Cucamonga and online across California.
If things feel “really bad” in your relationship right now, you are exactly the kind of person I most want to support. I am used to sitting with people in very painful, complicated situations. Over time, I have seen that when people have the right structure, enough time, and nervous-system support, they can make changes they never thought were possible.
My approach includes:
Advanced training in couples therapy
Brainspotting and other trauma-informed, brain-based treatments
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) when clinically appropriate
A focus on your heart, body, and nervous system, not just your thoughts
I am here as a holder of hope and as a guide. You do not have to keep pretending things are “fine” when they are not.
FAQ – San Bernardino Therapist
1. Are you actually located in San Bernardino?
My office is in Rancho Cucamonga, and I serve many clients from San Bernardino and the surrounding communities who drive in for intensives and ongoing sessions. I also offer online therapy for residents of California when appropriate.
2. Can we come for an intensive if we live in San Bernardino but have very limited time off work?
Yes. Many couples plan ahead and schedule their 1 or 2-day relationship intensive around days off or weekends. We can talk about your schedule during the consultation and see what is realistic. Because the intensive format is concentrated, you often make more progress in a few days than in months of traditional therapy.
3. Do you only work with couples in crisis, or can we come in earlier?
You do not have to wait until you are on the brink of divorce. Some San Bernardino couples come in because they want to protect their relationship, repair early hurts, and build stronger patterns now. Intensives work well both for high-crisis situations and for couples who want deep, preventative work.
4. What if we are already seeing a weekly therapist in San Bernardino?
Some couples choose to keep working with their local therapist and come to me for an intensive “reset” or to work through a specific stuck place. With your permission, I can coordinate care with your current therapist so you have a consistent team supporting you.
5. Can you help if we are dealing with trauma, anxiety, or depression as well as relationship issues?
Yes. Many people in relationships are also dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns. My training in Brainspotting and trauma work allows us to address both your individual pain and your relationship patterns in an integrated way.
6. How do we get started if we live in the San Bernardino area?
The first step is to schedule a free consultation. We will talk briefly about what is going on, I will answer your questions, and if it feels like a good fit, we will schedule your intensive and next steps.
If you want, I can next help you turn these into structured page outlines (H1s/H2s, internal links back to intensives pages, calls to action, and local-driving-direction blurbs) so they plug straight into Squarespace or whatever platform she is using.
